Broken. Today, I watched the news covering death and division in our world. This has been going on since the days of Adam and Eve. So sad. I then watched old reels of Justin Bieber’s transformation turning from death and division with God to new life. He had been apart from God and a part of the world. We need Him. Deep pain needs a miracle, not just any kind of healing miracle, but a holy healing with the Holy Spirit. ….. new life in Jesus Christ.
I found an old Billy Graham sermon about walking with the Holy Spirit. He talked about a charismatic movement in his time. We see those charismatic changes in the world today though maybe not as frequently (for example, the college in Kentucky and I believe within Justin Bieber). Pastor Graham shared of the word charisma which comes from the word Charis: The gift of grace. “It is brand new life when the Holy Spirit dwells in you….your body becomes the holy temple. That’s why we should be disciplined and take care of our bodies.” We can all have Charis.
There are gifts of the Spirit when we receive Charis. Galatians shares of these gifts: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. “The greatest thing in the world is love and the greatest evidence that you know Christ is love”-Billy Graham.
Pastor Graham encouraged people to glorify Christ in life. “Don’t resist the Holy Spirit as there is no forgiveness for this. The Holy Spirit draws you to Christ and convicts you of your need of Jesus otherwise you feel your heart getting harder if you refuse the voice.” Turn to Jesus and receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and have a soft heart that shines brightly to others. People can see this love, His love. It is a lifeline.
There is an old Hawaiian tale that every child is born with a light inside. Over time, things happen and the light is covered by hard stones in our hearts. The stones that cover our lights are fighting, division, bullying, harshness, all forms of abuse (things not of the Holy Spirit). Slowly, it’s hard to see the light inside the individual as it is covered by so many hurts and sins of the world or sins by us. How does the light shine again and become uncovered? By dumping all the stones out. By talking about these hurts and dumping them out of our minds and hearts to family, a good friend, or a counselor, and to God. From a Christian perspective, His light can shine inside by turning to Him, reconnecting to Him, abiding in Him, and receiving forgiveness from Him. God is love, the light that can overcome all the stones of hurt, sin, and pain. Jesus is the Holy Healing miracle, my strength today. Jesus gave me a lifeline by dying on the cross so the Holy Spirit can shine inside of me and overcome my brokenness. Thank you for your love, God.
