As I have been recently forced to slow down to relax, a great appreciation washes over me for some current uplifting experiences. In our culture which encourages us to go-go-go and succeed or mind-numb from exhaustion at the end of the day on never ending reels of Instagram or Netflix, I found an unexpected retreat away. As a mom of three, I don’t stop, and I don’t relax. There are internal and external pressures to be that perfect (which will NEVER happen) caregiver or employee or friend or mom or xyz here. Stopping. Slowing down. Relaxing. My body needed this. And I want it to be a routine. I have had time with God, new friends, and intellectual stimulation at a level I doubt I’ll ever reach (but still it’s invigorating). So this is what God wants for us. Matthew 11:28-29 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
I ponder how Jesus rested when He was here. He was not always working or running. He stopped. He prayed. He enjoyed friends. Live and Love Like Jesus (Triple L-J).
