If I’m honest, I would say that I haven’t paid much attention to commencement speeches at the graduations I’ve attended as a guest or family member. The words are heard, but as graduates are about to embark on a great adventure called the future, the words just fly over their heads, really. Yet, this graduation speech that I heard at Union University had a profound impact upon me.
The title was “The Decision Points of Your Life.” The speaker explained that “life is a summary of our decision points.” Basically, as the old adage goes, “we reap what we sow.” So, how can we make good decisions relative to navigating life, the speaker asked …….and replied:
1. When in the midst of a decision point, follow what God says (Not your own perspective, not your feelings, nor the present-day culture). Follow God no matter what stage of life you are in.
2. Find God’s purpose in your life (In other words, life is not about YOU. I know that’s a tough message to all of us to hear, but we are to serve our purpose for GOD).
3. Fasten yourself to a local church, which means to not neglect God. And, within church and other places, be careful who your friends are, as you’ll be like the friends you hang around with. Place your life in a Bible-following ministry or group and they will help you live life the way God wants you to.
4. Last, focus on a world that needs Jesus Christ. Can I get an Amen? “People need Jesus. God wants to use you to share the Gospel.”
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.
Let His word and way light your path, and read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 to hear about the blessings of obedience. Speaking about blessings, next time…………………………..a story of true love.
