David: Don’t use the armor of anyone else!

Dear Treasured Teens,

Sometimes, the way we act is from a place of hurt. Shame, fear, rejection, and/or sin can make us hang our heads. We then use different armor to protect our egos or to project an image of having it all together. Clothes, choreographed pictures on instagram or snapchat, cars, stuff, false bravado, or maybe acting unauthentic are pieces of armor we use to defend ourselves and fit into the present culture. David, in the Bible, was initially encouraged to wear the armor of other soldiers to defeat Goliath and be a hero. In the end, he authentically “wore” the armor of God and used his own slingshot. What happened?

Don’t use anyone else’s armor. God made you unique and wonderful! What would it look like if we, similar to David, used the armor of God, our own authenticity, and walked with our heads high? 1 John 5:4 For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. Faith. What is it? Think of John 3:16. That is our hope and His promise. He will never forsake or leave you. Read Deuteronomy 31:6. Know that Jesus loves you and calls you friend. Also, as you grow in faith, seek friends who will sharpen your faith, and that follow Jesus. Grow in your faith walk together. Wear His armor, and be your wonderful, special, unique self. Ephesians 6:13.
