The Three Little Pigs

One of the first stories that I remember ever was “The Three Little Pigs.” You remember the story, right? The mother told the three pigs, as they were about to go out into the world…..”Build good, strong houses.” Then, one fully listened and obeyed her so that when the wolf came around, that pig not only survived, but thrived.

In reading the parables of Matthew 13, Jesus explained how not every heart would hear and understand His words. He actually used the term “soil” as a metaphor of the heart. In Matthew 13:8, 14-15(paraphrased), He stated…good soil (a good or understanding heart) produces good crops (think of fruit here from Galatians 5:23), but those with calloused hearts do not hear or understand. “Though hearing, they do not understand for this people’s heart has become calloused.” When these people don’t understand, “the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart” (Matthew 13:18). Evil relates to sin. Now, that makes me think of the wolf from the story again, trying to trick the pigs….”Little pig, little “heart,” let me in. DON’T let sin get a foothold in your heart. Listen and follow God’s words, and God’s ways. Have a soft heart.
