One of my favorite movies is Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland. In this movie, which is set years after the first Peter Pan, Wendy has grown up and has a daughter, Jane. Jane refuses to believe, and Tinker Bell is going to die until Jane can believe in the magic of pixie dust. One line in the film is “all it takes is faith and trust…and pixie dust,” but Jane refuses to believe and petulantly states “They’re just words from a story, they don’t mean anything.” (And btw, listen to a great song “I’ll Try” by Jonatha Brooke.) But the words faith and trust mean everything.
I’ll give you definitions. Faith is belief in a higher power. Faith and trust are similar, but trust is one step further. For example, one analogy that I’ve heard is, we have faith when we believe a chair will hold us up. Trust is sitting in the chair, depending on the chair. Trust is completely counting on someone or something. When Jane believed, then jumped, she flew. What would have happened if she believed, but didn’t jump? She never would have flown. What do we miss out on when we don’t trust God? I continually learn to count on and trust God. I know He has a good plan for my life and your life. He’s proven it to me over and over again. Sometimes, things look “dicey” but I know He’s working out everything. I depend on God over anyone, or myself. Look at Abraham and Sarah waiting years on a child. Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” Jeremiah 29:11”For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
